About Music And Its History

April 8, 2011

How did music appear? Here’s a simple question with a complicated answer. Like many other things music was probably a happy accident which happened sometime in the prehistoric era. Archaeologists can offer little information about this subject, but there is a help. Like many historians and anthropologists say, there are many similarities between the wild tribes still living today and the primitive humans. So how did music sound at its beginnings? Like a series of rhythmical beats. To what purpose? To serve the religious ceremonial.

Although it’s hard to identify the moment when music started to be appreciated and enjoyed for its own value and not as a part of a ceremonial, this was a very important step. Because when it broke loose with religion, music was allowed to change, and the innovations and the new instruments lead to the art. Ancient Greeks considered music an art and included it into the pantheon along with 8 other muses.

But together with the end of Antiquity there seemed to be an end for its refinement also. The Middle Ages brought large movements of population which increased the instability of all areas of life. The Church was for a long time the only constant in people’s lives so its power gradually grew. It started to dictate the path to be followed for many areas of life. So music was once more subjected to religion. But as the people felt the need to enjoy music outside the church as well, troubadours started to sing in inns and at parties.

The Baroque (the 17th and the 18th Century) was needed so that music could become great. It was that period when opera was born as a genre and great composers like Bach, Vivaldi or Handel gave music a new face. By the end of the 18th Century Vienna concentrated genial talents like Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert and new musical styles have appeared.

The last centuries came with more and more musical styles which appeared and changed faster and faster. Europe and Asia ceased to be the musical nucleus. The better communications get the more eclectic music is. And it’s quite easy to enter this world. If you have a bit of talent you can learn to play piano or you can exercise your voice. If you don’t have talent… just listen. Harmony has never had so many sounds.

If you’re eager to learn to play piano then the decplay method is probably the best method for you!
