Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd was established by Yash Johar in 1976. From the time of its establishment, it has come produced a long list of super hit Hindi films. This movie was listed in UK Top 10, which happened for the first time in Bollywood. People once more saw Bollywood’s much adored pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in this romantic film. Apart from becoming the super hit film in that year, it also received several national and international accolades for its actors and for production values. The film got the National Award for Wholesome Entertainment in the year from Government of India.
The success journey of Dharma Productions was continued with Karan Johar with new story lines meant for the family as well as for the young audience. His films had all kinds of important ingredients like fun and drama because he wanted to woo all kinds of people.
Although, his films were considered to be with exaggerated stories and emotions but he managed to entertain people. With Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, not just he brought the stars of three generations together but also ensured its commercial success. His efforts were fruitful when this movie met with success in the country and abroad. In the year 2001, this film made the highest profit in US and UK.
Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, both films from Karan, were also appreciated. Library of Motion Pictures has kept the screenplay of the film Kal Ho Na Ho for reference among other Oscar movies. Latest movies in Bollywood from Dharma Productions were Dostana, Wake up Sid – both with new generation actors and actresses- and Kurbaan and My Name Is Khan – with audience favorites like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Several of the successful films of Bollywood have been produced by Dharma Productions.
