Choosing the right entertainment for your wedding

The forward planning needed to make it as perfect as possible will come down to military precision, from the day itself, to how you dress, to the flowers and then to the honeymoon – there is a lot to organise! The entertainment you choose however will set the atmosphere for all of your guests and, if done correctly, will provide a seamless backdrop that enhances the entire event.
With the pressure on we have devised this list of ideas, separated by the sections of the day, to help you make those important entertainment decisions.
The ceremony The ceremony marks the arrival of your new life. Many choose to enter the venue in a blaze of glory. If you’d like to shout from the rooftops about your nuptials, then a full blown steel orchestra is a great way to get your guests as excited as you. If you’re seeking something more subtle and sophisticated then, perhaps a string quartet, harpist or classical guitarist may fit the bill – or even a nice bit of opera singing! A lovely pianist or organist also adds a touch of class – all can create an uplifting atmosphere.
The Paperwork Signing the register can be a fairly lengthy process. So guests don’t get bored and fidgety, gain their attention with a musical diversion, such as a lovely aria (or two often!) by a top quality soprano or tenor. Or a lovely joyous string quartet, harpist or oboe trio.
The reception Following the main ceremonies the speeches and food provide a great way for your guests to get to know one another. There are many choices for background music depending on your character and the tone of the evening: sophisticated jazz, a harpist, a string quartet, cocktail jazz piano or maybe even a swing band. You can also use the pre-party music as a warm up to the evening’s party, if you’re planning on having a big disco to finish the night make sure your early evening entertainment starts to get guests in the mood.
The party The final big party is where you get to completely take in your day, and where your entertainment can be stepped up a gear! Whether you go suave and sophisticated, a bit of rock and roll or take a Latin and salsa vibe, the party should have your stamp all over it. It’s advisable to a think about what you listen to at home, it may be that a tribute to your favourite band or singer, or a ’50s, ’60s, ’70s or ’80s theme reflect your leisure time in the best way. For a little bit of something different you could experiment with live karaoke. The choices are endless; it’s all about your taste and theme so make sure you make the most of your big moment!
