She gave brilliant enacting As Chhoti Bahu, who tires to bring back, Chhote Babu, her husband, from brothels. She is a devoted wife to her spouse and truly wishes to perform her duties towards him. In order to attract her husband to her, she consumes alcohol, even though it was against her values. She skillfully enacts the confusions, sorrow and desires of a wife who suffers between rituals and traditions of a Hindu family and her husband.
Pakeezah.
This movie is a cult film in the Hindi film industry because of several reasons. Her name was put forward for best actress for the film, even though it was released after her demise. She performs the role of a singer in kothas who starts loving a forest ranger and they run away. In this movie she is daughter of Shahabuddin. Even after renaming her as Pakeezah (of pure heart), she gets recognized by people because of her popularity. She returns to her brothel leaving her lover, son of Shahabuddin. He gets married to another woman and in that ceremony she is brought to entertain the guests.
Kaajal was the movie for which she received the award for best actress for the 4th time. A lot of of her characters were melancholy. Meena Kumari is known in movie industry as the Tragedy Queen.
