Ne-Yo and Charity Musical Shows in Japan
April 7, 2011Ne-Yo is one of the artists on the forefront in playing his part to provide relief to the victims of destruction Japanese , who have endured one of the most devastating Tsunamis known to mankind . While his concerts are gathering money for charity work , Ne-Yo believes his music also has the power to heal souls. Some other celebrities , who had shows scheduled in Japan, cancelled their tours to the Asian country, after deeming it inappropriate to perform there at this time. But Ne-Yo decided to go ahead with his tour, even if some of his backup dancers decided against going to the country which now has the added danger of nuclear radiation.
While performing on MTV’s program Rapfix Live, the R&B singer said that the visit cancellation never even crossed his mind, as he was adamant from the very start that he would chip in the healing process by providing his Japanese fans with musical shows .
Ne-Yo said that lots of people questioned their move and intelligence of going ahead of their plans, considering the extent of damage there, but Ne-Yo told them that now is the time when Japanese people need them the most, so he didn’t pay attention to those who wanted them to postpone the tour.
The Grammy Award-winning artist told that he hasn’t personally witnessed the damage caused by the March 11 quake, as the places where his is performing (Nagoya and Yokohama) were neither near the epicentre nor were they affected in any way directly. But he did reveal that watching the Japanese people in his programmes , and the grief on their faces has been a gut-wrenching experience for him, and has inspired him in many ways.Free Online Music
Yo-Ne voiced that it was not possible to organise shows in the region where quake did the real damage. He highlighted the charity work going on in the Asian powerhouse, further saying he stated that people have been coming in big numbers in his shows to donate money and help their countrymen in this hour of need. He explained the response given to him by the crowd by saying that if a person didn’t know about the earthquake, then he wouldn’t notice that there was anything wrong at all, as they have came in his shows and enjoyed as much as they could. He said that the Japanese are about keeping their spirits high no matter how intense their sufferings are.
He then shed light on how he himself and his Compound Entertainment company has been contributing in the relief campaign. He raised his wrist and showed to the camera a wrist band that he was wearing, with words ‘Our prayers are with Japan’ emblazoned on it. Apart from the wrist band, he revealed that they also sold T-Shirts with the message ‘Spread Through Music.’ the sale of such merchandise has raised around $100,000 alone. The sale proceeds went directly into the relief program, which was in addition to the certain percentage of ticket sales contributed by Ne-Yo and company.
