Original seascape oil paintings are not affordable to most people, but you can at least own a print that allows you to enjoy the original artwork’s beauty.
Print replicas are only one option for purchasing a stunning image of the sea – you can have a reproduction printed on canvas so that it appears similar to a painting, but you could also purchase a copy created with real paint by a talented artist, or you could buy an original work by a less famous painter.
A large number of artworks showing the sea make use of a multitude of green and blue hues, but artists who prefer avant-garde or overtly modern expressionism have also created sea scenes using less likely color combinations. Depictions of oceans vary wildly in materials and composition, although the most famous works were painted using oil paints. This paint lasts longer, and oils have a wonderful texture. To get a sense of the textural possibilities oils provide, you only need to look at the masterpieces of Vincent Van Gogh.
