Even though most singers become icons for their singing abilities, they also gain popularity for the type of person they are. The way a singer dresses is one reason why singers feature in magazines and on television. They receive media attention for their ‘look’ as instead of their talent.
Madonna is one of the most stylish singers of the last decade. Having emerged in the 1980′s, her look has changed dramatically for album to album, year to year. This constant re-invention led to fans copying her look, making her a fashion icon. In the last decade, she has made a re-appearance with a new sound and a new look; a forty year dressed in a leotard. Her look stunned the nation and we were amazed by this woman’s fantastic body and her ability to stay in shape in spite of her age.

Her quirkiest outfits to date have included wearing a telephone as a hat and attending an awards ceremony dressed head to toe in raw meat. In spite of her unusual choices of clothing, she generally receives praise for her individual styles and remains a popular artist for being different from the crowd.
Christina Aguilera is a popular artist who has been praised for her individual style. She has also received negative comments from the press for her style. From entering the media world as a young, blonde, girl-next-door, her style has varied. Her various transformations have included wearing long extensions with revealing leather clothing through to glamorous curly hair with elegant 1920′s clothing.
Singers continue to feature in the media for reasons other than their music, and this is because the media in this day and age is so intrusive. Although a musicians talent should be about the music, fans still find it interesting to watch a singer as their style changes and adapts.
