Born in Germany, she is daughter to Scinda and Amanullah Khan, who wrote the script for Pakeezah and Mughal-E-Azam. She completed her studies in Los Angeles and India.
At the starting of her career, she was a writer for the magazine Femina. Afterwards she took up modeling as a career and was famous as a model. That’s when she became the winner of Asia Pacific Pageant which paved way to her entry into movies in 1970.
