Vibrant Parveen Babi

One of these stars would be Parveen Babi, who enacted roles, with perfection from the ’70s to ’80s. In her film career, spanning around ten years, she has performed in more than 50 films, among which ten are best. These films were also blockbusters at that time. Parveen Babi replaced the image of saree clad, conventional Indian lead actresses with a sensual self-reliant woman look.
She was not shy to portray characters of women in a physical relationship before marriage and consuming alcohol in society, both these things were never done by a woman on screen. She started off in Bollywood by acting in Charitra released in 1973 but became popular only through Majboor opposite to Amitabh Bachchan.

Parveen Babi experimented effectively with several roles which proved her talent as an actress undoubtedly. Her roles varied in a lot of films which were as a mother, a seductress, a gangster’s moll and as a cabaret dancer.
She was lucky to act with many of the well-known stars of those times and many of her hit films had Amitabh Bachchan as her co-actor. With many different roles in many films, she has also acted in popular song numbers which brought her career to a new level.

Amar Akbar Anthony, a blockbuster movie of the late ’70s, gave Parveen a peppy song which had all the 3 pairs of the film. Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai was that popular romantic number. Her 2 most songs are from Namak Halal which also starred veteran actor Shashi Kapoor. She got more popularity from the songs Jawani Janeman Haseen Dilruba and Raat Baaki Baat Baaki. These songs are listened to even to this day by music lovers in India and remains as an all time favorite song. The sensual looking Parveen wooed the mass through these songs.
Main To Beghar Hoon and Suhaag (1979) were top grossing movies, which had Parveen and Shashi Kapoor. A few of her romantic numbers were Angrezi Mein Kehte Hai I Love You, Teri Jheel Si Gehre Aankhon and Pyaar Karnewale Pyaar Karte Hain.
Her relations with Mahesh Bhatt and Kabir Bedi received unwanted sensationalism. Unlike other actresses, Parveen Babi has an unusual beauty and confidence.
