Wiz Khalifa; A Consistent Style

April 6, 2011

Some music professionals have advised that following Smash out of Wiz Khalifa hit ‘Black and Yellow’ and his fan-favorite underground track ‘Taylor Gang,’ his musical style and general attitude has changed a bit . Maybe stardom has begun to catch up a little with the previously humble rapper? The aggressive nature of his recent songs, shift from his native city of Pittsburgh to the shining lights of Los Angeles and a new hot girl friend certainly suggests so. But the lanky MC has rubbished these beliefs and has said that he is still the same person, although he is learning and exploring new things.

During the Woodie Awards at the South by Southwest musical festival, Wiz had a quick chat with MTV News, where he made it clear that ‘Taylor Gang’ does not mean that he has switched styles. He said that his fans and people close to him are well aware of the reality that he has a history of searching new musical variations, and he likes to try out new beats, but that is in no way an indication that he is ready to part ways with his identity or his trademark laidback music.

Explaining his collaboration with the Taylor Gang-music producer Lex Luger, Wiz said that there was a mutual respect between him and Lex from a very long time, and a joint effort just made so much sense. Like Wiz was up until last year, Luger is currently considered a highly rated up-and-coming artist, who is looking for his way break on to the mainstream music arena, and Wiz said that he is glad to help the young producer achieve the level which he craves and deserves.

Still think Wiz is changing? Well, don’t! That’s what the rap star’s message was as he pointed out that it isn’t the first time he is working with Lex, as he had previously produced several tracks for Wiz’s Cabin Fever mix tape- a fact little known or paid little attention to, in the media circles. Apart from that the weed-lovin’ MC assured his fans that he would never sign up to work with someone, who he doesn’t think would fit in with his lyrical content and style.

Wiz then told that he keeps an eye out only for those who compliment him and are able to remain consistent throughout their association with the Taylor Gang-favorite. He also lavished Luger with praises, saying that when he meets up with him inside the recording studios, amazing things happen, just like they did in Cabin Fever, and he promised the fans of supplying them with the same quality as before.

The release of Wiz’s much anticipated debut album ‘Rolling Papers’ is just around the corner, and he does not want his fans to get the wrong idea about him. But if they do, Wiz said, ‘he knows better.
